Celtic earrings handcrafted on the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland.
Celtic cross earrings from the Gospels of Lindisfarne and the Book of Kells.
Circular design incorporating interlacing Celtic knotwork border. The Sun Cross was a symbol used to show the connection between the earth and the Spirits. The Sun Cross was a circle with a cross in laid. The circle was the sun, which was attributed cosmic powers, as well as to be the center of the Universe. The Cross was the connection of the sun to the Gods, nature, wisdom and self. But it is also debated by some people that this could have been the four directions or even the four seasons. The Solar cross is probably the oldest religious symbol in the world, appearing in Asian, American, European, and Indian religious art from the dawn of history. Composed of a equal armed cross within a circle, it represents the solar calendar- the movements of the sun, marked by the solstices. Sometimes the equinoxes are marked as well, giving an eight armed wheel. The Celtic cross is a symbol of the Celtic Christian Church, borrowed from the pre-Christian Celtic Pagan emblem of the sun God Taranis.
